Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society), the UK’s leading baby loss charity, is determined to support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby and carries out vital work to improve maternity safety through targeted research, campaigning for change, working with the government and reducing inequalities in healthcare to save babies’ lives.
Babies are dying every day. Currently in the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth. That’s around 4,500 babies a year. This affects far more people than you might have realised. It shouldn’t be like this.
For more than 40 years, Sands has been there for anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss to offer understanding and comfort through its freephone helpline, closed Facebook groups, online meetings, and resources and locally through a UK-wide network of around 100 support groups.
In addition, further support and safe spaces have been created for specific groups such as men and those from black and South Asian communities. Find out more information about the support Sands provides.
