Befriending Networks and Befriending Highland have recently launched the Social Isolation and Loneliness in The Highlands Conference Report. In March, over 50 people including Roisin Hurst, Project Manager for the Scottish Community Link Worker Network, gathered in Inverness to attend the first Social Isolation and Loneliness in the Highlands Conference. Social isolation and loneliness is one one of the main reasons for referral to a community link worker.
The Conference was held in partnership between Befrienders Highland and Befriending Networks and was a welcome opportunity to bring interested individuals and organisations together and to draw attention to this important public health matter. The Conference Report contains links to the slide decks shared by each speaker. The report outlines recommendations as to what might be needed to create change in how loneliness and isolation are experienced, understood, and responded to.
In the meantime, you may also wish to connect with others through the Scottish Forum on Social Isolation and Loneliness, which meets online 3 times each year.
Finally, if you have not done so already, you can also subscribe to the Befriending Networks newsletter.
