The Highlands Psychoanalytic Collective (HPC) began in 2023 as an informal gathering of mental health professionals who wanted to create space for thinking, learning, and developing meaningful clinical services across the Highlands.
Our early work focused on supporting frontline workers and practitioners facing the emotional demands of their daily roles, and on cultivating a community where ideas could be explored collaboratively. In June 2025, HPC became a formally registered charity.
Psychoanalysis has had a deep and lasting influence on how we understand human relationships, health services, and social issues. It takes seriously the complexity of our inner world: our dreams, our contradictions, and the unconscious dynamics that shape everyday life.
Despite this, psychoanalytic services and training remain largely urban, leaving the Highlands underserved. We aim to change that, creating pathways for psychoanalytic thinking and practice to reach communities across the region.
We believe the Highlands, with its distinctive culture, landscape, history, and communities, deserves full access to psychoanalytic services, training, and development.
