Alzheimer Scotland wins Charity of the Year award

June 15, 2012

Alzheimer Scotland is delighted to have won the Charity of the Year award at SCVO’s Scottish Charity Awards 2012, held in Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket last night (14 June). The award is a recognition of many years of dedicated effort towards improving the lives of people with dementia, their carers, partners and families.

Henry Simmons, Chief Executive of Alzheimer Scotland, said, “I would like to say how delighted we are to win this prestigious award. We have only been able to achieve such strong progress thanks to the thousands of people who support us, the dedication and hard work of all our staff and volunteers, and to the positive and supportive partnerships with key policy makers at all levels.

“We dedicate this award to all the people with dementia, and their partners, families and carers who we support and who support us. Together we can make sure that no-one goes through dementia on their own.”

The other winners are:

  • Campaign of the Year: Love Equally – Scottish Youth Parliament
  • Charity Champion: Bill Learmonth
  • Community Action Award: Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers
  • Partnership Award: Sue Ryder & Scottish Prison Service
  • People’s Choice Heart & Soul Award: Down’s Syndrome Scotland and the Celtic Foundation
