CHEX is a community health exchange that promotes community-led health, tackling Scotland’s health inequalities. They work with community-led health organisations, Local Authorities, the NHS and Scottish Government to promote community development approaches to improving health inequalities.
- Locally they encourage networking of community-led health organisations and support them to share learning and good practice.
- CHEX manage Health Issues in the Community (HIIC), an interactive training course used to increase understanding of community-led health.
- With those in the NHS and Local Authorities they encourage partnership working with community-led health organisations. At Scottish Government they advocate for community-led health as part of the solution to Scotland’s health inequalities.
- They provide information and training opportunities promoting the benefits of community-led health.
CHEX is part of the Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC), the lead body for community development. The SCDC works towards their vision of an active, inclusive and just Scotland where our communities are strong, equitable and sustainable, they work directly with community organisations, people who work in communities and with people who make policy.
The SCDC work directly with:
- Community groups and organisations
- Community development practitioners
- Government and other policy makers
- Local partnerships and agencies across Scotland who want to involve communities in their work
- We work directly with community organisations, people who work in communities and with people who make policy.
The SCDC deliver large scale programmes across Scotland to help build the capacity of the community sector, support public agencies to work effectively with communities and to widen participation in local democracy.
