Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director, Scottish Government Healthcare Quality and Improvement Directorate, has written formally to the Chairs of Health Boards to draw their attention to VHS’s Clear Pathway Guidance. Professor Leitch’s letter was sent to Chairs, Chief Executives and Strategic Leads for Volunteering on 25th April, explaining that this was strategic guidance concerning the management of volunteers deployed in NHS settings who are not directly recruited, managed or trained by NHS Boards. The guidance is designed to support Boards to manage the risks and capitalise on the opportunities associated with third sector volunteering so that it is always safe, effective and person-centred, in line with the quality ambitions of NHSScotland.
The guidance was commissioned by the Scottish Government and co-produced by VHS and partners drawn from across the third and health sectors. VHS is working with these and other partners to further disseminate and promote the guidance. For example, it is downloadable from NHS Education for Scotland at the Volunteering in NHSScotland community of practice webpage.
