The Health Policy Officers Network (HPON) is hosting an online Q&A event on the National Care Service Bill with Assistant Clerk to the Health, Social Care & Sport Committee and the Parliament’s Participation & Communities Team.
- Time: Wednesday 3rd August at 1pm-2pm.
- Location: Zoom
- Outline: The event will focus on the Health, Social Care & Sport Committee’s planned scrutiny of the bill and its anticipated journey through parliament over the next several months. We will be joined by Assistant Clerk to the Committee, the Parliament’s Participation & Communities Team and hopefully a colleague from SPICe.
- To attend: If you would like to come along, please email kimberley.somerside@vhscotland.org.uk. If you are a health policy officer but not yet a member of the HPON you can still attend, just drop Kimberley an email.
The conversation is going to be geared towards the processes involved as the Bill progresses through the Parliament, and how to interact with the committees responsible for examining the Bill, but we hope some members of the HPON will share their views and experience engaging with the legislation so far. Colleagues from Parliament will be happy to answer any questions given the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee’s role in scrutinising the proposed legislation and provide some insight on how best to engage with this incredibly important legislation going forward.
As ever, the HPON is designed to be a peer support and information sharing network, so if you aren’t planning on engaging with the Bill but would like to learn more about the legislative process please do come along. Equally if you would like to share your organisation’s priorities on the National Care Service Kimberley would also welcome your input to the event. We will leave time for this at the end of the session.
Other Opportunities to engage with the NCS Bill
The Health, Social Care & Sport Committee has two calls for views open until Friday 2nd September on the Bill and the Scottish Government is separately hosting engagement events.
Health, Social Care & Sport Committee
You can access more information about the Bill and links to the Call for Views and the Your Priorities digital consultation here: https://yourviews.parliament.scot/health/ncs. There are two options for those wishing to participate in this public consultation:
- Call for Views
This includes general questions about the Bill, questions about the Financial Memorandum and the option to provide more detailed comments on individual sections of the Bill. It is primarily aimed at groups and organisations who are looking to input their views on the Bill. A direct weblink to the call for views is available here: https://yourviews.parliament.scot/health/national-care-service-bill
- Your Priorities digital consultation
This offers an opportunity to ask questions or to highlight specific hopes or concerns about the Bill. Respondents can also rate specific provisions in the Bill (agree, disagree, don’t know) and make brief comments about them. The Your Priorities digital consultation offers an opportunity for individual members of the public to give their views about the Bill.
If you represent a membership organisation and would like support using the Your Priorities digital consultation with your members or would like to receive a ‘conversation toolkit’ to support a group discussion about the Bill in your community, please email our Participation and Communities Team at pact@parliament.scot.
Scottish Government
Separately, The Scottish Government is holding a series of engagement events through July and August on the Bill.
If you have any questions please speak to Kimberley.
