A message to all our Full Member Organisations.
We’re looking for five new people from our membership community to join our board as elected members, so we are inviting nominations. To apply, you need to send us your completed VHS Elected Directors Nomination Form 2023 by 9.00 am on Thursday 9th November 2023.
This is a pivotal and exciting time to get involved in the governance of VHS. At our Annual General Meeting on 30th November we say farewell to our current Chair Rob Murray, who has served a full term on the board, and we welcome our new Chair, Christine Carlin. And currently, in advance of our Chief Executive Claire Stevens’ retirement from VHS in March 2024, the board is working hard to recruit a successor to lead the organisation and the staff team. Next year we celebrate VHS’s 20th anniversary as a charity, and it will be a year when the board will work with the new Chief Executive, our fantastic staff team and our membership community to develop a new three year strategy.
Our elected board members come from across our membership community, from large health charities through to smaller community-based organisations, and each brings a unique range of skills, knowledge and experience. Some work in senior positions and have prior experience of being on a board, but some are less senior in their organisation and bring other strengths and qualities. For some, joining the VHS board is a personal development opportunity. It’s very important to us to have an inclusive board that reflects the diversity of the voluntary health sector’s interests and people. The role of trustee/director is voluntary and unpaid, so in return we work hard to give our board members an experience that is rewarding, interesting and useful.
Our board members serve as VHS’s trustees and directors, and are responsible for ensuring VHS fulfils its purpose as a charity and its obligations as a company limited by guarantee. They are collectively responsible for the governance, strategy and accountability of VHS. They ensure our finances stay healthy and that we are a good employer. You can check out our constitution here.
This invitation is for our Full Membership Organisations only, so if you are unsure about your membership status please get in touch.
To nominate yourself or someone else from your organisation for election, you need to complete our board nomination form and return it no later than 9.00 pm on Thursday 9th November 2023.
We encourage you to think about this opportunity, and we look forward to hearing from you.
