Improving Engagement between Health and the Third Sector

December 5, 2012

The work of three short-life action groups set up by the Scottish Government’s Quality Alliance Board is nearing its conclusion. All three action groups have undertaken significant tasks which will collectively form an Engagement Framework for the third sector and all NHS boards. Elements include a web resource; an engagement matrix with guidance; and promotion of the use of Community Benefit Clauses in contracts.

VHS has led the action group on ‘Improving engagement between health boards and the third sector’ and has convened Leads Network meetings, a grouping which includes the third sector leads for every territorial and special health board. The Network has collectively developed the engagement matrix and guidance.

A report on the work of all three action groups and the recommendations made for taking the work forward in an integrated and aligned way will be developed by the Scottish Government with the involvement of the Chairs of the groups. Once agreed, this will be shared with the Quality Alliance Board and NHS Chief  Executives.  The partnership working of the third sector with NHS Scotland is seen as an important and developing relationship which has the full support of Derek Feeley, Director General and CEO of NHS Scotland.
