With attendance at external events slowing down, I’ve found myself wondering: Did the people I spoke to really understand what I meant when I talked about the Third Sector — and the jobs available in it?
It’s easy to assume understanding when you’re surrounded by people who “get it.” But outside of sector spaces, the language we use — like Third Sector, capacity building, or even community engagement — can be unclear, or even off-putting.
As I start planning the next phase of online content, my focus is shifting. I want to reach a broader audience — and that means learning how to translate my messages into something catchy, clear, and impactful.
Yes, Goodmoves is a job search platform — but it’s also a space where we promote the entire sector: the work, the values, the career paths that many don’t even know exist. So, I need to find the Fairy Liquid, water, and wands to help ideas mix, conversations flow, and projects come together.
Maybe that’s how I start communicating beyond the Third Sector bubble.
One of the real strengths of this sector is the willingness to collaborate, share, and support each other. And I know there are countless organisations and individuals out there who are already doing brilliant work — creating jargon-free, inclusive, and relatable content that speaks directly to specific audiences.
So, I’m thinking webinars, podcasts, even venturing into the world of TikTok.
Change is a good thing — in moderation and at a gentle pace. And if we want to encourage more people into the Third Sector, it might take a few tiny bubbles to burst first.
Now I need to connect with others who are doing the same — or who want to. If you’re working on (or interested in) accessible, creative, and inclusive comms about your sector and its opportunities, let’s chat.
