Health, hope, and healing: A collective approach to addressing health inequalities with ALISS
As we continue our collective efforts to tackle health inequalities, this year’s Scottish Community Link Workers Network (SCLWN) Conference theme of Health, Hope, and Healing reminds us of the power of community-led approaches in supporting people’s health and wellbeing. At ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland), we are proud to be part of this vital work, connecting individuals to the resources and support they need to live healthier and balanced lives.
Health inequalities: A persistent challenge
Health inequalities represent real, lived experiences that affect the most vulnerable in our society. Gaps in health outcomes are driven by a range of social, economic, and environmental factors, and these inequalities are often worsened by barriers to accessing the right services. This is where community link workers make an impactful difference.
Through link workers, they are bridging the gap between people and the services, information, and support that can improve their wellbeing. They are the vital link that helps people navigate what can often be a complex and disjointed healthcare system, providing them with the hope and healing they need.
ALISS: Empowering communities through information
At ALISS, we understand that having access to accurate, relevant, and up-to-date information is key to overcoming health inequalities. Our aim is to create an easily accessible platform that helps individuals and communities find local services, support networks, and resources tailored to their unique needs.
Whether it’s mental health support, help with managing long-term conditions, or finding local exercise groups, ALISS ensures that people know where to turn when they need it the most. Our platform is designed to empower both individuals and community link workers by making local information across Scotland easy to find, share, and access.
We believe that when people have the right information, they can self manage their choices that in turn lead to healthier lives.
How Can ALISS Support You?
As part of the Scottish Community Link Workers Network, ALISS is here to support your work and provide Link Workers with the tools and information needed to help individuals. Our platform is constantly progressing to ensure it meets the needs of both individuals and health and social care professionals. Here’s how we can help you in your role:
Access to Local Resources: ALISS offers a searchable database of over 5,000 community-based services and supports. From creative and social activities to local support networks, our platform is a valuable tool for finding the resources that matter most to those you support.
Real-Time Updates: We work with local partners to keep our platform’s information current, ensuring that you always have access to the latest services and community projects.
Collaboration and Networking: ALISS is part of the wider Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland which is committed to addressing health inequalities. We encourage collaboration among community link workers, health and social care professionals, and community organisations.
Resource Sharing: We will carry on supporting the community link workers and organisations in our network. Our resources, webinars, and case studies can help you stay informed on health and social care in Scotland.
Looking Forward: Health, Hope, and Healing Together
As we continue the journey towards addressing health inequalities, we encourage you to engage with us and share your insights. Together, we can continue to support the health and wellbeing of communities across Scotland.
