DESCRIPTION:This informal event is a further opportunity to engage with researchers from the Scottish Government Covid-19 Modelling and Analysis Hub. Previous sessions with the same team’s input have been very informative and have been highly rated. This latest session will provide an opportunity to consider the implications of their latest research for people’s future health and wellbeing\, and for social renewal and the reshaping of services in our communities. It will provide a platform for participants to share their perspectives on the current landscape and put forward their own views on recovery and social renewal. \nWhy attend?\nA year on from the outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK and the landscape is now a complex one. The efforts of UK and Scottish governments\, the NHS and Public Health Scotland to bring the virus under control continue\, with Test and Protect\, mass vaccination\, continued lockdowns and relentless public health messaging key planks of their strategy. In parallel to this\, the agenda for social and economic renewal is becoming ever more pressing. Third sector organisations are very often at the frontline in seeing and dealing with the impact across Scotland’s communities of repeated lockdowns\, social distancing\, furloughing\, job losses\, home schooling and shielding. We are keen to ensure that the opportunity to get vaccinated is made as easy as possible for everyone in Scotland\, including those who are furthest away from public services and who already face a wide range of inequalities. We will be feeding back our short survey results to the Public Health Scotland Evaluation of the Flu Vaccination COVID Vaccination (FVCV) programme and to the Scottish Government teams co-ordinating the COVID-19 Vaccination programme.  \nIf you are a third sector organisation working actively to support people’s health and wellbeing\, you can help by attending this event to share your experience and local intelligence. DESCRIPTION:VHS and The Open University are hosting two\, invitation only\, round table meetings to continue the discussions on serious mental health issues later in life. \nThe issue we are seeking to address is the situation some people with serious mental health conditions (other than or alongside dementia) find themselves in once they become 65. Issues we have been exploring include under-diagnosis\, under-provision\, poor transitions from ‘adult’ services to ‘older people’ services\, discrimination and flouting of human rights. For some people with serious mental health issues\, their 65th birthday is like ‘falling off a cliff’ in terms of service provision; for example\, their CPN may be removed. A key issue to address is the transition point from adult to older people services\, this is where things unravel for some people. \nBy March last year we had gathered a level of evidence\, through round tables held in 2019 and through two surveys conducted by NHS Health Scotland and Dr Adam Daly respectively. The work then paused\, unfortunately but of necessity\, due to Covid-19. \nFirstly\, we will look to explore what has changed during the year of covid-19 for older people with serious mental health conditions\, and secondly to start to co-produce recommendations for changes in mental health and older people’s policy leading to improvements in services. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Health Inequalities CPG January meeting on Tuesday 26th January at 6pm online via Zoom. The meeting will be chaired by Group Co-Convenor Donald Cameron MSP. \nTopic:  Deep social exclusion: dying whilst homeless in Scotland \nHomelessness is often an indication of severe and multiple disadvantage and complex needs. Scotland has double the number of homelessness deaths to the rest of the UK.  Why do homeless people have significantly worse symptoms than other groups at the end of life\, but often die without accessing end of life care? Scotland has double the number of homelessness deaths to the rest of the UK.  Why do homeless people have significantly worse symptoms than other groups at the end of life\, but often die without accessing end of life care?
