DESCRIPTION:The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Scotland extends a warm invitation to VHS members to attend an evening reception hosted by Duncan McNeil MSP in the Burns Room of the Scottish Parliament\, Tuesday 17 June 2014 at 6pm\, to launch ‘Physiotherapy Works: Social Care’ . \nThis event will give you the opportunity to find out more about the role of physiotherapy in social care and how the profession can work to deliver the outcomes for improved services. It will also provide a chance to network with colleagues and friends from across health and social care in Scotland. \n▪ Shared Vision Physiotherapy and social care professionals have a shared vision for services which prevent deterioration\, promote and improve physical\, mental health and wellbeing\, encourage directed self-management and build people’s confidence\, independence and life chances. \n▪ Health and Social Care Integration With legislation in place to better integrate health and social care in Scotland\, professionals in both sectors now need to address the cultural and structural challenges and gain a better insight into the role and value of each sector and extend engagement beyond the traditional working environment. \n▪ Increasing Service Demand With the ageing population\, and increasing numbers of people with long term conditions\, demand for health and social care services will continue to rise. Expenditure is not keeping pace with demand and people’s independence and wellbeing are at risk. DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh\, Thursday 5th June 2014 \nThe Nursing and Midwifery Council has extended an invitation to VHS members to join the second meeting of their forum in Scotland\, on Thursday 5 June 2014 from 12:00-15:00 at Nursing and Midwifery Council\, 114-116 George Street\, Edinburgh\, EH2 4LH. \nThe Council protects patients and the public by effective and efficient regulation of nurses and midwives. To help make sure that patients and the public are considered in the development of their standards\, guidance and policies\, they have set up a patient and public engagement forum. DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh\, Thursday 5th June 2014 \nThe Nursing and Midwifery Council has extended an invitation to VHS members to join the second meeting of their forum in Scotland\, on Thursday 5 June 2014 from 12:00-15:00 at Nursing and Midwifery Council\, 114-116 George Street\, Edinburgh\, EH2 4LH. \nThe Council protects patients and the public by effective and efficient regulation of nurses and midwives. To help make sure that patients and the public are considered in the development of their standards\, guidance and policies\, they have set up a patient and public engagement forum. Claire will share the voluntary health perspective on this\, drawing on what VHS members have told us about the challenges and opportunities they perceive if health inequalities are to be reduced.Edinburgh\, 10-12 April 2014 \nAbout the Event\nAfter inspiring discussions on health\, justice and the state of democracy held in Nottingham in July 2012\, the UK People’s Health Movement invites you to the second UK People’s Health Assembly. The focus will be on ‘building a progressive health movement in a time of austerity and social exclusion’. However\, 2nd PHA is not just about developing and strengthening our movement. It is also about impacting directly in the struggle for social justice: health for all\, decent living and working conditions for all\, equity and environmental justice. \nThere is an interesting programme\, with inspirational talks by distinguished speakers and several opportunities to share\, learn\, brainstorm and build synergies on cross-cutting issues of: Austerity and health; Social exclusion and vulnerabilities; and Environmental justice and occupational health. These three themes run in parallel through the Assembly\, moving from storytelling about people’s experiences\, to analysis\, to solutions and alternatives. In the final plenary these discussions come together to hear experiences of health movements from across the globe including India\, South Africa\, Uganda and Europe. \nSpeakers include Lesley Riddoch\, David Woodward\, Prof. Andrew Watterson\, Prof. Tracey Shildrick\, Louise Taggart\, Cathy McCormack\, Alex Scott-Samuel\, Sonya Scott among others. The focus will be on ‘building a progressive health movement in a time of austerity and social exclusion’. However\, 2nd PHA is not just about developing and strengthening our movement. It is also about impacting directly in the struggle for social justice: health for all\, decent living and working conditions for all\, equity and environmental justice. \nThere is an interesting programme\, with inspirational talks by distinguished speakers and several opportunities to share\, learn\, brainstorm and build synergies on cross-cutting issues of: Austerity and health; Social exclusion and vulnerabilities; and Environmental justice and occupational health. These three themes run in parallel through the Assembly\, moving from storytelling about people’s experiences\, to analysis\, to solutions and alternatives. In the final plenary these discussions come together to hear experiences of health movements from across the globe including India\, South Africa\, Uganda and Europe. \nSpeakers include Lesley Riddoch\, David Woodward\, Prof. Andrew Watterson\, Prof. Tracey Shildrick\, Louise Taggart\, Cathy McCormack\, Alex Scott-Samuel\, Sonya Scott among others. The assembly will offer a dynamic space and witness diverse participation from community based groups\, networks\, and activists who will contribute to discussions on the above themes.
