DESCRIPTION:** This event is for CLWs and Programme Leads in primary care settings in Scotland.** \nThis training event\, in partnership with Cruse Scotland \, will focus on how to talk compassionately about death\, dying and bereavement. The course is designed to build CLWs’ confidence and insight on the differing expressions of grief responses following bereavement. It will support CLWs to convey compassionate responses\, whilst demonstrating genuine understanding and support. \nThe course will support CLWs to: \n\nbuild confidence to communicate with compassion to those who are grieving\, following a bereavement\nhelp them to consider grief in the context of their role\ndevelop an understanding of compassionate conversations which in turn increase confidence in discussing grief themes\nconsider the impact of working with grief themes and how to manage individual self-care and wellbeing.\n\nPlease note that the number of places will be restricted to facilitate discussion. \nFind out more and book your place. \nFor more information about the event please contact Network Project Manager Roisin Hurst.

SUMMARY:SCLWN: YGam Gaming and Gambling Harm Prevention Training
DESCRIPTION:This event is for Primary Care Community Link Workers and Community Link Worker Programme Leads. \nYgam is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to preventing gaming and gambling harms among young people. Their work bridges the critical knowledge gap between young people’s digital lives and the adults who guide them. They believe in harm prevention through education\, empowering the people who can make a real difference. \nFollowing a successful training event in June 2025\, The Scottish Community Link Worker Network is working again with award-winning charity Ygam to offer CLWs City and Guilds Gaming and Gambling Harm Prevention Training.  The timing of this training is particularly pertinent with the release last year of the Public Health Scotland Healthcare Needs Assessment of Gambling Harm in Scotland. This document also recommends the new NICE Guidelines on this topic\, which say the following: \n“Health and social care professionals should consider asking people about gambling (even if they have no obvious risk factors for gambling-related harm) when asking them about smoking\, alcohol consumption or use of other substances (for example\, as part of a holistic assessment or health check\, when registering for a service such as with a GP or in contacts with social services).” \n30% of 11-17-year-olds have spent their own money on gambling in the last 12 months (far more than the 15% who have vaped in the same time period)\, and 87% of 8-25-year-olds play video games at least 3 times a week. \nYgam’s workshop will help CLWs to open up conversations on these topics (which can be tricky to do due to the shame and stigma associated with them)\, as well as providing guidance on how to support and signpost a patient who is experiencing gaming or gambling harm. \nBook your place here!

SUMMARY:Workshop: Accessing 2022 Scottish Census Data with National Records Scotland
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a practical online workshop led by the National Records of Scotland\, exploring how to access and interrogate 2022 Scottish Census data\, as well as other NRS datasets. \nScotland’s Census is the official count of every person and household in the country. There has been a census in Scotland every 10 years since 1801\, except 1941. The 2021 census in Scotland was moved to 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThe answers people give to census questions help build up a picture of the population\, and present a unique opportunity to explore trends within the whole population. \nThis session will provide hints and tips to make the most from the Census Table-builder\, as well as introducing a range of other tools and datasets available through NRS with clear guidance on how they can be applied in practice. SUMMARY:HPON Meeting: Election 2026 Debrief
DESCRIPTION:This in-person meeting of the Health Policy Officers Network (HPON) we’ll discuss the results of the 2026 election \, including the implications for health policy and the role of the third sector. \nThe 2026 election is widely predicted to cause a seismic shift in Scottish politics\, with many current MSPs standing down and new political parties rising in popularity. There are a number of political priorities likely to straddle the election\, including the Assisted Dying Bill and the Human Rights Bill as well as commitments made in 2025 to public service reform and a shift to prevention in health. \nThis meeting provides a chance to analyse the implications of the results and to explore joint opportunities for ensuring that health is at the top of the agenda for new and returning MSPs and Ministers.

SUMMARY:SCLWN Training Event: Compassionate Conversations
DESCRIPTION:**This event is for Primary Care Community Link Workers and Programme Leads.** \nThis training event\, in partnership with Cruse Scotland\, will focus on how to talk compassionately about death\, dying and bereavement. The course is designed to build CLWs’ confidence and insight on the differing expressions of grief responses following bereavement. It will support CLWs to convey compassionate responses\, whilst demonstrating genuine understanding and support. \nThe course will support CLWs to: \n\nbuild confidence to communicate with compassion to those who are grieving\, following a bereavement\nhelp them to consider grief in the context of their role\ndevelop an understanding of compassionate conversations which in turn increase confidence in discussing grief themes\nconsider the impact of working with grief themes and how to manage individual self-care and wellbeing.\n\nPlease note that the number of places will be restricted to facilitate discussion. \nMore information and book your place here.

DESCRIPTION:SCLWN Workshop: Working alongside Gypsy/Traveller communities: Opportunities and Tensions for CLWs \nThis session will be centred on how we build trust with Gypsy/Traveller communities\, recognising what meaningful health support should look like when Antigypsyism shapes so many encounters. \nDrawing on Progress in Dialogue’s recent work on the conditions of safety in help-seeking\, mental health\, and trauma-informed care\, our session will provide a safe space for dialogue and questions. Together we will explore why intersectionality\, Antigypsyism and ‘missingness’ matter in healthcare and to the role of a CLW. The session will draw from lived experience and good practice to create an environment where CLW’s can engage meaningfully with the topic\, being empowered to bring the knowledge back to their own settings and practice. \nJoin Progress in Dialogue to explore working meaningfully with one of Scotland’s least understood and most marginalised communities. \nAbout Progress in Dialogue \nWe are a grassroots organisation working to improve the lives of marginalised communities across Scotland. DESCRIPTION:This practical and interactive workshop will explore the implications for third sector organisations of the Voluntary Health Scotland (IN)VISIBLE research into the relationship between sex\, gender\, and health. \nA summary of the key relevant findings of the research will be shared with participants before panellists share practical guidance on what third sector organisations can do to address gender-related health inequalities for both their workforce and for those communities they engage with. This includes guidance on supporting women to prioritise their health and overcome misogyny\, providing allyship for trans and non-binary people experiencing stigma and discrimination in the health system\, and supporting men to seek help for their mental health. \nParticipants will then have the opportunity to ask questions to all speakers on particular issues or scenarios. \nThis event will be hosted online on Teams. \nSign up now!

The objectives of the session include experiencing a mindfulness practice\, the opportunity to share challenges to selfcare with your peers and address these challenges. SUMMARY:SCLWN Programme Leads Event - Whole Family Support Through General Practice Project
DESCRIPTION:Inequalities in child health outcomes are widening in Scotland. A significant number of families experience poverty\, isolation\, poor mental health\, neurodevelopmental conditions and significant stress. Many face barriers in accessing the resources and support they need from a complex\, fragmented system of services with high thresholds and limited capacity. This results in unmet needs\, crisis presentations\, and continued negative impacts on wellbeing that risk being embedded across the life course. \nThe Whole Family Support through General Practice Project  is an initiative where Family Wellbeing Workers (FWWs) provide holistic support to families experiencing\, or at risk of\, poverty\, trauma and neurodevelopmental difficulties. \nThe Whole Family Support through General Practice (WFSGP) intervention is one of several projects supported by the Scottish Government’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund (£500m between 2022-2026)\, but the only one based in primary care. \nThis session will be led by Suzanne Niven\, Health Improvement Manager\, NHS GGC and David Blane\, Senior Clinical Lecturer in General Practice and Primary Care\, University of Glasgow and Scottish Deep End Project. \nFind out more and book your place. \nPlease contact Roisin Hurst if you have any questions about this event.
